Spelling Bee 2015 022Presentation has two Spelling Bee champions! In our recent school competition Tara from 5th class Room 12 was the winner followed by Emma (6th class Room 18) as runner-up. Unfortunately, Tara was unable to represent the school in the Louth competition in Dundalk Grammar School on April 28th but Emma proved to be a worthy substitute. It was a nail-biting experience for both participants and audience alike! Emma came joint 2nd in the competition and was only knocked out by a word that may not be familiar to too many people….. “facetious” Well done, Emma. We are very proud of your achievement.Spelling Bee 2015 017

5th and 6th class pupils took part in our first Eason Spelling Bee competition recently. Each class held their own internal Spelling Bee and the six overall winners went forward to the ‘Grand School Final’. A tense and anxious audience eagerly supported and cheered the extremely focussed spellers. The two finalists, Alison G and Zoha K, brought the audience to the edge of their seats when they battled through a series of tie-breaker rounds until one pupil emerged victorious, Zoha K.
We look forward to supporting Zoha as she will now represent our school in the upcoming county finals in Dundalk on May 2nd.Congratulations to Zoha and well done to all the spellers for making our Eason Spelling Bee competition an extremely enjoyable event.

On Friday Feb 1st last Presentation was proudly represented by five teams ( three Senior and two Junior) in the annual Credit Union Quiz in D.I.F.E. A lot of preparation was done by the girls under the guidance of Mrs Costello with Practice Quiz Sheets completed for homework and Practice quiz rounds done during the weeks before the big night. On the night itself all teams performed well but one of our Junior teams excelled by coming first in the competition. We are extremely proud of Chantelle Gallagher, Ezra Evangelista, Megan Swift and Erin Mc Donagh for this great achievement. The girls were awarded an individual trophy and a generous cash prize while the school also got an award and a beautiful Genesis Perpetual Trophy. Next step is the Chapter final which will be held in Ashbourne on March 1st. We wish the team every success in the next round of the competition and thank Drogheda Credit Union for their generous sponsorship.

Well done to the other four teams from our school:

Junior: Erin Browne, Emmanuella Ogbanga, Rebecca Gerulyte, Jemma Farrell

Senior: Shauna Lynch, Gráinne Brady, Aoife Martin, Marea Kirwan
Angelica Quines, Serena Matthews, Abigail Dennis, Jude O’Brien

This year the girls and their parents embraced the true spirit of Christmas with their very generous donations to the annual St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Food Appeal. Everything from rice to tins of Roses and soup to snack bars arrived in large quantities for this very worthy cause. Many people in our community benefited from the generosity of the girls in Presentation. A big THANK YOU to all and may God’s blessings reign on you throughout 2013.

Next year, 2013 will mark a significant milestone in the history of the Presentation Sisters in Drogheda as we prepare to celebrate the bi centenary of their arrival to our town. Currently a committee of teachers, parents and past pupils from both Our Lady’s College Greenhills and Presentation Primary are busy making plans to celebrate this occasion. As part of the celebration we are seeking old photographs and other printed memorabilia that you as parents and past pupils may have to contribute from your old albums.

We would be grateful to receive photographs that cover the history of this school (opened in 1974) or indeed photos from the days in Fair Street and/or Duke Street (St. Philomena’s school). These can be emailed to or sent to school in print format.

On Fri last Feb 3rd our school entered 5 teams in the annual Credit Union Table Quiz competition. The event was held in D.I.F.E. where the large gymnasium was packed to capacity with teams from a host of different schools and their supporters. The competition was tough but Presentation came away with 3rd place in both the Junior competition (under 11’s) and the Senior competition (under 13’s). Well done to Aoife Collins, Ezra Evangelista, Marea Kirwan and Rachel Byrne from the Junior team and Emma Flanagan, Katie Mc Quillan, Amy Conaghan and Cara Jordan from the Senior team. Girls from the other 3 teams also deserve a mention for their efforts: Sandra Costa, Nelvea Osorio, Aoife Pentony, Jude O’Brien, Niamh Cannon, Ellen Murray, Molly Loughran, Emma Mc Carthy, Juru Tadiwe, Britney Nomayo, Rachel Coffey and Lauren Leech.
A big CONGRATULATIONS to everyone for all the hard work and for proudly representing Presentation School.

The girls from rooms 11, 13, 15 and 18 spent time this week in the Droichead Arts Centre at an exhibition by artist Claire Halpin. While they were there they viewed her work and also spent time creating their own artwork with Claire’s help.
