Last week we took part Active Schools Week. We started each morning with ‘Wake Up, Shake Up’ where the children copied dance moves on the interactive whiteboard. During the day they had a busy break where they did aerobic moves to various dance tunes. The numbers of pupils that walked or cycled to school each day was recorded as Scores on the Doors. The children were delighted to have some physical activities to complete as part of their homework! On Friday afternoon the whole school took part in different physical activities such as skipping and rounders. Well done to the teachers who organised this successful event.

Today was a very proud day for our school. The HSE Dublin North East  awarded the Yellow Flag for Health Promotion to our school. We are the first school in Drogheda to be awarded a Yellow flag for Health Promotion. Click here to learn more about the hard work that went into achieving this award and check out our gallery for more photos taken at the ceremony.

Next Friday Dec 16th will be a very proud day for all the teachers and students of Presentation. On that day HSE Dublin North East will award the Yellow Flag for Health Promotion to our school. We are proud of the fact that we are the first school in Drogheda to be awarded a Yellow flag for Health Promotion.
In 2008 we launched our 3 year Action Plan for Health Promotion. This was preceded by a questionnaire which was sent home to parents to ascertain what aspects of Health Promotion were of greatest concern to them.
In Year 1 (2008-’09) we focused on Healthy Eating. Our school’s Healthy Eating policy was put in place and children were encouraged and rewarded for choosing to eat healthy lunches.
In Year 2 (2009-’10) our focus was on Physical Activity. The children were encouraged to be active during their recreation time. Playground games were introduced and revised. A large investment was made in new P.E. equipment for the school. Children were given an opportunity to participate in sport and activities such as Gaelic football, Basketball and Yoga.
Year 3 (2010-’11) saw Road Safety receiving lots of attention. We now have a safe pedestrian entrance for all our students. Our caretaker Don painted yellow footprints on the roundabout so that children can walk on a safe pathway as they leave the school every evening. In June last we had a Road Safety poster competition. The framed winning entries with their catchy slogans will be put on display on the corridors to remind everyone of the need to take care on the roads. Finally we would like to thank Drogheda Borough Council for assisting our Action Plan with road markings on Ballymakenny Road, a dedicated bus parking bay and safety barriers for the children. A cycle path is currently under construction by the council and we look forward to seeing it being put to good use by Presentation girls in the near future.
Our ceremony will begin on Friday at 12 noon. Our invited guests will include representatives from the Parents’ Association, members of the Board of Management, school principals, retired teachers, Presentation sisters and members of the media. We are all looking forward to seeing a new flag flying high outside our school and we even have a special song for the occasion composed by our Deputy Principal, Mrs Maguire. Roll on Friday the 16th . . . . .
