Last November the pupils in Mrs.White’s class, Ms.Whelan’s class and Ms. McHugh/Ms.Mullin’s class participated in the MS Readathon. A total of €2495 was raised for this worthy charity. The funds raised are used for services for those living with Multiple Sclerosis in Ireland. The girls read a huge number of books during the 4 week period. We would like to thank those who sponsored our pupils so generously.

Congratulations to Sarah Perez in Mrs.White’s class who was a winner of the MS Readathon Special Achiever’s prize and she received a certificate and a number of books.

On Friday June 3rd we will have a sponsored GAMEATHON (a day of games) here in the school to raise much needed funds for the school. This year we plan to spend the money on computer, science and maths equipment for the school.

What will happen on the day?
On the day the children will come to school as normal, however all learning activities on that day will be through structured games. Classes will rotate around the school in order to play activity based games, playground games, traditional board games, as well as subject orientated games such as maths games, Irish games, quizzes etc. We also hope to have a teachers versus pupils match. In the afternoon the children will gather in the hall for a monster raffle, where a large number of prizes will be raffled among the children.

How to be included in the Monster Raffle
As the fundraising day will take place on Friday 3rd June, all sponsorship cards must be returned by Thursday 2nd June at the latest. Children who return their cards early, on or before Tuesday 31st May with €10 sponsorship or more will be entered into the monster raffle. This raffle is held as an extra incentive for cards to be returned early, as this makes the work of the fundraising committee much easier. If any parent works for a business that would like to donate child friendly prizes we would greatly appreciate it.

Check out the Jedward leaderboard, we are currently 2nd, we need to be in first place for Jedward to visit our school. We are so close , we still have 14 days left to collect phones. All phones need to be submitted for counting before Wednesday 18th May. Please send all old phones into the school for recycling.

There are two ways to win this competition. The opportunity to meet Jedward will be awarded to the school that collects the most phones per pupil (we currently have 364 pupils) and also to the school that collects the most phones in total. We are trying to win the second way by collecting the most phones in total as we have a large number of pupils compared to other schools to try to win the first way.

The competion for Jedward to come and visit our school will end on 20th May. We need everyone to try their very best in the next couple of weeks to collect as many mobile phones for recycling as possible. It is important to remember that the phones will also be used by the Jack and Jill Foundation and will also help us to get free I.T equipment for the school.

Along with the Jedward competition we will also run our own competition here in the school. It will take the same format as last year’s competition in the run up to Easter. Every child that brings in a mobile phone will exchange it for a free raffle ticket for the Monster Easter raffle. If they bring in two phones they will get two tickets and so on. Also for the class that collects the most mobile phones between now and the Easter holidays, each girl in that class will go home with an Easter egg.

The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation have launched a new competition where two schools collecting the most mobile phones for the Jack & Jill Foundation will win the opportunity to meet Jedward in June 2011.There are two ways to win this competition. The opportunity to meet Jedward will be awarded to the school that collects the most phones per capita (we currently have 365 pupils) between now and May 20th and also to the school that collects the most phones in total over that timeframe. Therefore, all schools, big and small, have a great chance of winning. The two winning schools will be announced on 30th May, and Jedward will visit the two winning schools in June 2011. We have a great chance of winning this competition as last year we were Top Mobile Phone collector in Co. Louth.
