Mrs. White, Mrs.Costello and two of our Green school committee members, Olivia and Michaela, attended the Louth County Authorities Environment Awards in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Dundalk. We were thrilled to learn that we had retained our platinum award status for the third year. The judges who visited our school recently gave us very high marks under each section (litter, waste and energy management, appearance of school grounds and awareness of the pupils. Because we were one of the top six schools in the county our school will be fitted with a ‘Climote’, a gadget to control heating via text messages! Hopefully this award winning gadget with help us to make further reductions in our heating costs.
We would like to congratulate Katie McQuillan who received the Runners Up prize in the 2012 Junior Environmentalist of the Year competition. Katie was interviewed for the award. The judges were extremely impressed by how articulate and well informed Katie was on environmental issues. Katie received a specially engraved crystal clock, a framed commemorative certificate and a gift token in recognition of her achievement. Once again we would like to congratulate Katie for representing our school so well and we hope she will continue to take an active role in Green school’s programme in the future.
