girls busy playing bingo.

Some great events took place in the school during Seachtain na Gaeilge. Every day a game of “Cé hé mise?” was played over the intercom. Mrs Brassil also organised a whole school game of Irish bingo and each class performed at the Irish concert on Tuesday 15th March.

Lorna Kinsella had a very exciting start to the day. She was brought to school in style on the i105-107 Cool School Run. When she arrived she was met at the school by balloons and she was interviewed on the radio. Her teacher Ms. Carter was also interviewed and her class even got to sing a song live on air.

The 5th class girls attended the Holy Family Youth Group’s production of “Resurrection Rock” in Holy Family Church Ballsgrove today. The girls were treated to a musical interpretation of the story of Holy Week which gave them much food for thought as we prepare for the celebration of Easter.

A storyteller visited our school today and spent the day working with all the classes in the school. His name was Pat Ryan. He told us a number of stories and riddles and worked with children from 5th and 6th class in the afternoon in a story writing workshop. He was very engaging and funny and told us a great story about a chicken.

We are collecting Tesco for Schools and Clubs vouchers. They will be given out in Tesco stores from today, Monday 28th February until Sunday 8th May. There will be a box outside the secretary’s office to put the vouchers in. If any parents would like a collection box or poster for their place of work to help us out they can call into the school or their daughter can collect one from Ms. Lynch.

Along with the Jedward competition we will also run our own competition here in the school. It will take the same format as last year’s competition in the run up to Easter. Every child that brings in a mobile phone will exchange it for a free raffle ticket for the Monster Easter raffle. If they bring in two phones they will get two tickets and so on. Also for the class that collects the most mobile phones between now and the Easter holidays, each girl in that class will go home with an Easter egg.

The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation have launched a new competition where two schools collecting the most mobile phones for the Jack & Jill Foundation will win the opportunity to meet Jedward in June 2011.There are two ways to win this competition. The opportunity to meet Jedward will be awarded to the school that collects the most phones per capita (we currently have 365 pupils) between now and May 20th and also to the school that collects the most phones in total over that timeframe. Therefore, all schools, big and small, have a great chance of winning. The two winning schools will be announced on 30th May, and Jedward will visit the two winning schools in June 2011. We have a great chance of winning this competition as last year we were Top Mobile Phone collector in Co. Louth.
